The decision to have an abortion is not simple or easy. We want you to take the time needed to determine what is right for you. We perform abortions from 5 to 15 weeks L.M.P. We offer 2 different procedures at this clinic.

Medical Abortion:
Must be 8 weeks or less. The procedure involves 2 medications, Mifeprex (Ru 486) given by the physician, and 4 tablets of Misoprostol you take home and insert vaginally. This procedure requires 2 or 3 trips to the office, it is 95% effective.

Mifeprex (Ru 486):
This drug blocks the progesterone needed for the pregnancy to continue.

Misoprostol:
This medication causes the uterus to contract, and expel the uterine contents. Most women miscarry within 24 hours, the majority in the first 4 hours.

A few women will need a surgical procedure about 4%, because of bleeding or an incomplete procedure.

Surgical Abortion:
We use two procedures at the clinic. This is the safest and most gentle method available today.

Manual Aspiration:
Must be 7 weeks or less. This procedure is done by hand with a syringe. A gentle suction is created and the tissue is removed through a narrow tube.

Vacuum Aspiration:
This procedure is done between the 7 th and 15 th week. The doctor numbs the cervix and a medicine for relaxation and cramping is given by the nurse. The physician leaves the room and allows the medications to work. The nurse will care for you during this brief time, and address any concerns you have. The doctor then dilates (opens) the cervix slightly and inserts a sterile cannula into the uterus. A gentle suction is applied, and the uterus is emptied. Your personal nurse will help you to the recovery room. This procedure takes about 5 to 8 minutes. This is one of the safest surgical procedures done today.
